Eco Travel Connections
Connecting people + places + things. All around the world.
"It was an ordinary bus trip with crying babies and hot sun, and country folk getting on at one Penn town after another, till we got on the plain of Ohio and really rolled, up by Ashtabula and straight across Indiana in the night. I arrived in Chi quite early in the morning, got a room in the Y, and went to bed with a very few dollars in my pocket. I dug Chicago after a good day's sleep".

What’s the connection?

Arvis Northrop’s articles and travel stories make the connection between conventional travel and eco travel.  Ecotourism, eco travel and responsible travel are most often identified as adventures in remote areas, such as river rafting in Costa Rica.

Arvis’ advocacy for responsible travel also brings awareness to the fact that when we travel within our own hometown and our favorite local vacation destinations, we can be aware of our impact on our environment.  There’s eco travel at home too!  We can seek out services in our destinations that are supporting eco-friendly standards of operating; businesses that support us in being respectful of the destination while enjoying the benefits of leisure, recreation and business travel.

In Arvis’ words:

“I have had the privilege to travel to East Africa, visiting rural villages and on safari in the Ngorogoro Crater.  With my digital camera I attempted to capture the intense beauty of the land: vast, untouched, undeveloped, expansive, natural land.  How fulfilling, energizing, nurturing it was to experience.  Can’t let it go.  I could see and feel this landscape and I think it actually physically resonates within any human’s body.  It is the Earth, there is nothing there but the true Earth. Often, as I gazed over the landscape a cry sounded in my mind, “Please! Don’t turn this into another urban sprawl!”Napa Valley

Now, when I hike up to hillside ridges and look out over the Napa Valley, I can imagine what it all looked like before with nothing there at all; just the Napa Valley’s earth and landscape.  It’s all the same, all over the Earth.  Here, our land is developed: rivers dammed, trees torn down, hillsides mowed, mountains mined.  We have been very busy. But underneath it all is our beloved Mother Earth and here we are, all of us, all over the globe, digging and toiling in our Earth; completely dependent on our planet.  Deep within each of us is the all-consuming commitment to care for our planet, our home.”

“Napa Valley, California is my home; known worldwide as a beautiful and intriguing place to visit.  As a travel writer, I have a collection of eco-excursions for local Napa Valley residents and visitors to explore. My Eco Marketplace is an online store to support and encourage Fair Trade when purchasing our everyday needs, gifts and special pleasures.
